A Travellerspoint blog

New venture

Or should that be 'adventure'...

This is a bit of new thing for me. I have always travelled with a notebook, fully intent on writing down my experiences in a kind of travel journal, but not really doing anything with it afterwards, let alone look at it again!

My first travel journal I suppose dates back to 1982, when I travelled back to England from Australia with my family for a 6-week holiday, about 6-months before we moved back to England for good. I kept a diary of the things we did, places we visited, and people we met, and also the feelings I had about meeting my cousins, aunts and uncles again after almost 10 years. I wish I could find it again - doubtless it would make for interesting reading.

Anyhow, the next time was Crete in 2003, I think? I did nothing with that. Then my wife and I went to Paris at Christmas 2004. I was (and still am) writing my novel, so my travel journal was integrated into the book. It's actually a great way to help with your writing, whether you're doing fiction or not. If you record the sights, sounds, smells, etc. of your surroundings, it's much, much easier to incorporate into a story later.

So, that's basically what this blog is all about. I look forward to hearing from others who may want to share their experiences of travel writing, or writing while travelling.
